Watch - Promising Research in Brain Tumor Treatments
I think the most promising areas of research currently are based on the molecular biology of the tumors and mutations that we might find. That then might be targeted or certain pathways that are very important in regard to cellular proliferation and growth of these tumors.
If you can somehow inhibit them without the tumor being smart enough to find another pathway to grow and without also causing a lot of toxicities.
I mean, you know, some areas are about immunotherapy mobilizing the immune system to fight your own tumor, and that can be done in a variety of means. But the downside to that is that you also sometimes activate the immune system in a way that it attacks your other normal tissues, too.
So there are ways to target very specific areas that I think will help us going forward to be more specifically targeting the glioblastoma cells if it’s a high grade malignant tumor or other cells. So I think targeted therapies, very specific to certain growth factors, receptors, pathways is probably the best way to go.
