Brains for the Cure Joins NCI-CONNECT Organizations
Brains for the Cure joins NCI-Connect as a Rare Brain and Spine Tumor Support Organizations to support their efforts to support patients and caregivers facing a brain tumor diagnosis.
About Brains for the Cure
In April 2017, Brains for the Cure was launched and built specifically for patients and caregivers: Brains for the Cure—an online navigator to help them understand, manage, and cope with all the twists and turns of a brain tumor diagnosis.
Patients and caregivers tell us that this site helps them in ways that no other resource does. When there’s nobody to turn to and everything feels overwhelming, Brains for the Cure offers a level of understanding that meets them exactly where they are and helps them find a useful forward step to take, whatever their situation.
With timely articles from the scientific and personal perspectives, more than 200 videos of physicians, caregivers and patients sharing their stories and resources developed to ease some of the journey through treatment, Brains for the Cure connects the brain tumor community to let those fighting know they are not alone.
About NCI-Connect
NCI-CONNECT (Comprehensive Oncology Network Evaluating Rare CNS Tumors) aims to advance the understanding of rare adult central nervous system (CNS) cancers by establishing and fostering patient-advocacy-provider partnerships and networks to improve approaches to care and treatment.
Primary CNS cancers are tumors that start in the brain and spinal cord. They account for less than 2% of all cancers diagnosed a year in the United States, with over 130 different types. Although all primary adult CNS tumors can be considered rare, NCI-CONNECT is starting with 12 types, each with less than 2,000 people diagnosed a year.
NCI-CONNECT intends to address these challenges and unmet needs by connecting patients, providers, researchers and community organizations to work in partnership.
